1977 Members of St. John’s Lutheran Church and Grace Lutheran Church establish Christian Senior Services as an independent nonprofit to provide meals to the elderly and an adult day care program. It began with 8 meals each day and 5 senior clients in the day care program, named “Grace Place.”

1980 Meals on Wheels begins home deliveries through partnerships with four local churches and 40 volunteers; 3,664 meals are delivered during the year.

1994 The Senior Companion program is added to help isolated and disabled older adults maintain their independence with companionship provided by other seniors.

1996 Preparing 1,200 meals daily, Meals on Wheels is constrained by the kitchen at St. John’s Lutheran Church. The CSS board decides to purchase a former Wyatt’s cafeteria at Loop 410 and Babcock which becomes the agency headquarters. An area of the building is remodeled to create a second Grace Place Alzheimer’s Center.

2000 Meals on Wheels, up to 1,600 meals daily, requires a building expansion of 5,000 sq. ft. to accommodate a driver loading area, office space for caseworkers and supervisors, and a library/meeting room.

2007 Christian Senior Services celebrates its 30th anniversary! Over 4,000 seniors are recipients of the services provided, including over 600,000 meals.

2009 Christian Senior Services opens its third center in a remodeled Ryan’s Steakhouse located in Northeast San Antonio. The center becomes home to the Senior Companion Program and Grace Place – Northeast.

2010 With the support of the community, Meals on Wheels now delivers over 850,000 meals to frail and homebound seniors living in Bexar County.
